Join Settings

Configure the Save Only application form for your credit union. Control which questions are shown, optional or required, and set joining requirements including minimum deposit, joining fee and monthly savings.

Written by Greg Boynton

Join Settings controls how the Save Only application form is presented to new members. Settings here apply to Save Only (Join Only) applications only. Join and Borrow applications use per-product Loan Settings instead.

One set of settings applies to all savings products within your organisation.

Changes take effect immediately for new applications. Members who have already started an application are not affected.

Verification

Bank ownership check

For Save Only applications, ‘Bank ownership check’ is the only way to collect a member's bank details. There is no option to allow members to provide bank details without validation.

Setting this to Yes adds bank verification as a mandatory step in the application. The member must provide their bank account details before they can proceed.

Setting this to No removes bank details from the application entirely.

Note: The outcome of the bank verification check does not impact the applicant's ability to proceed. Pass or fail, the application will come into the credit union and the results will be shown in the Dashboard.

Application Questions

These settings are shown under the ‘Personal details’ header and control which questions appear on the Save Only application form. Each question can be set to one of three states:

  • N/A — the question is hidden and not shown to the member

  • Optional — the question appears but the member can skip it

  • Required — the question appears and must be completed before the member can submit

Only questions set to Optional or Required are shown on the form. A form configured with mostly N/A settings will be noticeably shorter.

Three questions default to Required when your credit union first accesses Join Settings: Nationality, Residential status, and Employment status. All other questions default to N/A.

Question

Notes

National Insurance Number

In this context it is gathered to fulfil obligations under tax verification and HMRC reporting.

Residential status

Whether the applicant's home is owned, mortgaged, or rented.

Employment status

The applicant's employment situation.

Employer name

Typically used for payroll deduction setup and common bond verification.

Job title

Used for payroll deduction setup. Primarily relevant to credit unions offering employer-linked savings.

Payroll number

Required for payroll deduction setup. Set to N/A if your credit union does not need this.

Prize saver opt-in

Collects the member's preference for prize draw enrolment. Your credit union handles prize draw enrolment through its existing back-office process. This should be set to optional so the member is not forced to participate.

Nationality

Used for right-to-remain verification. When a member selects any nationality other than British or Irish, the Share Code question is displayed automatically. Set to N/A to suppress both Nationality and Share Code entirely. We recommend keeping this set to Required.

Monthly savings amount

Used to gather the amount the member wishes to say each month. Set it to required if you wish to specify a minimum expectation.

Minimum monthly savings(£)

This field will appear if the Monthly savings amount is set to required. Enter the minimum amount the member must agree to save each month. They can choose to save more.

Share Code

The Share Code field is not independently configurable. It appears automatically when a member selects a nationality other than British or Irish. If Nationality is set to N/A, Share Code never appears.

When displayed, Share Code appears directly below the Nationality question. The member enters their 9-character alphanumeric share code. Your credit union verifies the code manually as there is no server-side verification against the Home Office.

Join and Save Requirements

Minimum deposit to open account

Enter the minimum amount a member must deposit to open the account. Set to 0 to hide any mention of a minimum deposit from the application.

One-off joining fee

Enter the joining fee for new members. Set to 0 to hide any mention of a joining fee from the application.

Join Terms and Conditions

Enter the URL for your Terms and Conditions in the URL for Terms & Conditions field. This link is displayed to applicants before they submit their application.

Saving your settings

Select Save to apply your changes. A preview of all changes you have made is displayed for review. Select Confirm to apply them, or Cancel to go back and make further edits. Changes take effect immediately for new applications.
