The Rules tab provides detailed information about any decisioning rules that have been triggered.
Rules are organised into categories. Each category is divided into sub-tabs for easier navigation.
Each sub-tab title reflects the status of the most severe rule triggered. For example:
If a decline rule is triggered, the decline icon will be shown.
If a refer rule is the most severe status, the refer icon will appear.
If no rules are triggered, a blank circle icon will be displayed.
For warnings, the warning icon will be displayed. Warning colours—red, orange, or grey—indicate the severity of the issue.
Within each sub-tab, you’ll find the rule set used and the results for each rule and strategy (value band).
The rules are displayed in a table, where each cell indicates whether a rule was triggered for a specific strategy:
If a refer rule is triggered, the cell will display the refer icon: an orange/amber exclamation mark.
If a decline rule is triggered, the cell will display the decline icon: a red "X".
For errors or warnings, the cell will show the appropriate colour-coded symbol based on severity.
ID tab
The ID tab shows whether the rules related to DEC13 or REF11 have been triggered.
The table displays whether these rules have been triggered for the current decision and whether they would have been triggered had the applicant applied for different amounts.
Risk tab
The Risk tab displays the rules associated with key risk indicators, including:
Credit score
Recent searches
Electoral roll status
This tab indicates whether the following rules were triggered for the current decision:
DEC12: Credit score decline
REF10: Credit score refer
REF22: Number of recent searches (typically in the last three months)
REF23: Number of medium term searches (typically in the last 12 months)
REF21: The applicant isn't on the electoral roll
Additionally, the table shows whether these rules would have been triggered if the applicant had applied for different amounts. This makes it easier to make an alternative offer, for a lower (or possibly higher) amount.
In the example below, the applicant applied for between £5,000 and £9,999. This was a refer. The value band above for over £9,999 was also a refer. So too, was value band £2,500 to £4,999. However any loan for £2,499 and below would have been an accept:
Legal Action tab
The Legal Action sub-tab indicates whether any rules related to Count Court Judgments (CCJs), Debt Relief Orders (DROs), Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs), or bankruptcies have been triggered.
Specifically, it shows whether the following rules have been triggered for the current decision:
DEC04: Currently insolvent (insolvency includes DROs, IVAs and bankruptcy or the Scottish Equivalents.
DEC11: Recently insolvent (typically one year, but configurable)
REF18: Has been made bankrupt in last 24 months
REF19: Has been made bankrupt in last 6 years
DEC05: CCJs issued recently (typically in the last year)
DEC06: CCJs issued in the medium term (typically in the last 2 years)
DEC07: CCJs issued longer-term (typically in the 3 years, but sometimes 6 years)
REF05: CCJ issued in the last 24 months
REF05: CCJ issued in the last 36 months
Again, the table highlights whether these rules would have been triggered if the applicant had applied for different amounts.
Indebtedness tab
The Indebtedness tab shows whether the applicant triggers any debt ratio concerns.
Specifically, the Indebtedness tab displays whether the following rules have been triggered for the current decision:
REF13: Monthly debt ratio (the amount being spent on debt repayments each month)
REF14: Annual debt ratio (the amount owed compared to annual income)
REF15: Revolving debt ratio (the proportion of credit card limits that have been used)
DEC14: Highly indebted (At least two of REF13, REF14 or REF15 have been triggered)
REF12: Highly indebted (At least two of REF13, REF14 or REF15 have been triggered)
It also indicates whether these rules would have been triggered if the applicant had applied for different amounts.
Missed Payment tab
The Missed Payment sub-tab shows whether the rules associated with defaults and arrears have been triggered.
The table displays whether or not the relevant rules have been triggered for the current decision and whether they would have been triggered had the applicant applied for different amounts.
DEC03: Runaways (people who took a home credit or short-term loan and never made a single repayment)
DEC08: Defaults present recently, typically in the last 12 months
DEC09: Defaults present medium-term, typically in the last 24 months
DEC10: Defaults present longer-term, typically in the last 36 months
REF07: One or more missed payments on a mortgage account in the last 12 months
REF08: Two or more missed payments in last 12 months
REF09: At least one default in last 12 months
REF20: At least one in last 24 months
Affordability tab
The Affordability sub-tab focuses on rules triggered based on information from the applicant's Open Banking connection.
These rules can only be evaluated once the applicant has connected their bank accounts via Open Banking. After each connection, all available Open Banking data is reviewed to determine whether any affordability rules have been triggered.
The affordability rules use Open Banking and include:
REF24: Income verification; how different is the declared income from that which has been identified using Open Banking?
REF25: Income stability; how different is this month's income compared to the average over the period of the connection?
DEC15: Bounced payments; if there are more than x number of missed direct debits or standing orders in the last x months where x is configurable.
DEC16: Gambling frequency; if there are more than x number of gambling payments in the last x months where x is configurable.
DEC17: Gambling value; if there are more than £x has bee spent on gambling in the last x months where x is configurable.
DEC18: Buy Now Pay Later; if there are more than x number of Buy Now Pay Later payments in the last x months where x is configurable.
Other tab
The Other tab displays rules that are triggered when there are issues or important details to be aware of in the applicant's credit file, such as a notice of correction.
Here, you'll find crucial rules, such as whether the applicant is 18+ or has been reported as deceased.
